With reference to previous correspondence, our clients

have, through us, presented their claim to preferential

consideration before the Committee appointed to consider

the Regulations.

2. We have no reason to suppose that such presentation was

successful save in so far as the Committee, while recommend-

ing that the Ferries be put up to tender, may have recommended

that a tender by our clients should be preferred if about

equal to other tenders received,

It is understood the Committee recommended that the

Ferries should be put up for a period of three years, this

term being fixed on because of the impossibility of getting

new launches built under present conditions, it being

estimated that, after three years, normal conditions will

prevail.

4. Our clients submitted to the Committee, and beg to

submit again to the Government, that a recommendation of

the nature of that alluded to in paragraph 2 is far from giving our clients any preferential treatment save of a

purely contingent nature. If a tender substantially exceed- ing that of our clients is put in by other parties, either

for speculative or ulterior motives, all question of

preferential treatment presumably goes by the board,

our clients are entitled to preferential treatment and

this has been conceded both by the Government and by The

Hon. Mr.Holyoak and the Hon. Mr. Shewan such treatment
